Ever since Elon Musk acquired Twitter (Now X) it seems like it’s been a downhill slope ever since, with problems and new features coming out that seemingly no one asked for, and now our latest issue, is with Elon Musk claiming to remove Blocking other accounts from X.

Musk Claims that Blocking will not be a feature in the future of X, except for Direct Messages. This was in a reply to Tesla Owners Silicon Valley asking other users if there is ever a reason to block another person, rather than mute.

This would also be in violation of the Terms of Service of both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store Policies, which means that the X app would have to be removed from those platforms, leading to a significant drop in users.

Musk also recently made a change to Twitter that hinders the to reach out to others via DMs if you’re not a paying Twitter Blue member, The ability to send message requests is also now reserved for Twitter Blue users only.

This whole situation began when Elon Musk’s Twitter account blocked a number of users, creating discussions about the ethics of such actions by individuals with influence. While social media platforms allow users to control who can interact with their content, the case of a high-profile individual like Musk brings unique considerations due to their broad impact on public discourse.

Privacy concerns have emerged as individuals who were blocked raised questions about the implications of being silenced by a prominent figure. This raises conversations about whether public figures should have the same level of control over their online interactions as private individuals, especially when their statements can impact stock prices, public sentiment, and even global affairs.

Furthermore, the issue touches on safety considerations as well. Blocking users on social media platforms is often employed as a means to protect oneself from harassment, abuse, or offensive content. However, when public figures engage in this practice, it can inadvertently be perceived as an attempt to stifle criticism or dissenting opinions. The debate around whether this action is justified or detrimental to open discourse is at the center of the current discourse.

In an age where social media serves as a vital platform for communication, opinions, and information dissemination, the actions of influential figures like Elon Musk carry significant weight. As debates continue, the incident serves as a reminder of the intricate balance between personal freedom, privacy, and safety within the digital landscape, and the responsibility that comes with being a public figure in the digital age.
