Google has decided to raise the prices of its Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus subscriptions. This change affects both new and existing subscribers in the US, UK, and Australia, with other countries potentially following suit.
Google’s Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus subscriptions will now cost more. The base Nest Aware subscription, previously priced at $6 per month or $60 per year, has been increased to $8 per month or $80 per year. Meanwhile, the Nest Aware Plus subscription, which previously cost $12 per month or $120 per year, now comes in at $15 per month or $150 per year.
By default, Nest cameras record approximately three hours of event history. The standard plan extends this event history to 30 days. In contrast, the Plus plan extends event history to 60 days and includes the added benefit of 10 days of continuous video history. Additionally, it offers features like face detection, sound detection for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, the ability for the Nest Hub Max to act as its own camera, and simplified access to the nearest 911 call center.
New customers will experience the price change immediately. However, for existing subscribers in the US, UK, and Australia, the price adjustment will come into effect in the fall of 2023. Google plans to notify customers in other countries 30 days in advance of the price increase.
It’s worth noting that not all Nest Aware subscribers will be affected by the price increase. Google has clarified that the price changes do not apply to those who have canceled their subscriptions or receive Nest Aware through partner companies, such as ADT. To determine if your subscription is through one of Google’s partners, the company provides instructions on its support page.
Google cites the need to adapt to market shifts, including factors like inflation and local tax law changes as the reason behind these subscription price adjustments.
